1. Getting Started
Character Selection
At the beginning, choose one of the five starting classes:
- Acolyte: Specializes in necromancy and death magic.
- Mage: Focuses on elemental and arcane power.
- Primalist: Masters nature, beasts, and shapeshifting.
- Rogue: Specializes in dexterity, stealth, and ranged attacks.
- Sentinel: The tank-like warrior class with a focus on melee combat and defense.
Each class later branches into unique Mastery Classes, so choose a class that fits your playstyle.
Skills and Skill Specialization
- Skills level up as you use them. As you level a skill, you'll unlock a skill-specific tree that allows further customization. Choose which skills to specialize in based on your chosen build.
- Experiment with different skill combinations early to find what works best for you.
Equipment and Crafting
- Gear comes in tiers: Normal, Magic, Rare, and Unique. Each offers different stat bonuses.
- Crafting plays a vital role in the game. Using Shards, you can enhance gear by adding stats. Glyphs and Runes help improve the crafting process, increasing success chances and reducing instability.
2. Chapter 1: The Ruined Era
The Council Chambers
After selecting your class, the game begins in the Ruined Era. Your mission is to fix the timeline by traveling through different time periods to prevent the cataclysm that destroyed the world.
Meet Elder Gaspar: Follow the quest markers to reach Elder Gaspar in the Council Chambers. He will give you the first mission: to locate the Epoch, a device capable of time travel.
Travel to the Wasteland: Fight through the early zones (Ruined Era) filled with zombies and corrupted creatures. Follow the story quests that lead you to the Wasteland.
Boss Fight: The Husk of Elder Gaspar: After completing some quests, you’ll fight the Husk of Elder Gaspar. This boss introduces basic mechanics such as dodging AoE (area-of-effect) attacks. Learn to kite (hit-and-run) enemies effectively here.
Key Side Areas
- The Maj'Elkan Catacombs: Offers great early-game loot and XP. Explore thoroughly and complete side quests here for added gear and passive points.
3. Chapter 2: The Divine Era
Journey to the Imperial Era
After completing the tasks in the Ruined Era, you travel back to the Divine Era. Here, you’ll be tasked with gathering knowledge about the enemies trying to manipulate the timelines.
The Last Archive: Complete quests and explore this zone to unlock new skill points and passives.
Boss Fight: The Immortal Emperor: This boss has several phases with minions and AoE abilities. Be prepared for fast movement and take advantage of ranged or AoE spells to defeat him efficiently.
4. Chapter 3: The Imperial Era
The Imperial City
Join the Order of the Javelin: Align with one of the factions to progress the story. The Imperial City is filled with enemies that can overwhelm you if you aren’t careful, so focus on dodging and crowd control.
The Ruins of Welryn: Follow quest markers here to uncover more about the world's backstory.
Boss Fight: Argentus, the Silver Knight
This fight requires you to avoid heavy-hitting attacks and manage cooldowns wisely. Positioning is key; keep moving to dodge Argentus’ slam attacks.
5. Chapter 4: The Ancient Era
The Temple of Eterra
You are now sent back to the Ancient Era to uncover the roots of the great catastrophe.
The Heart of the Forest: This zone contains stronger enemies. Utilize skills that increase survivability, such as shields, life leech, or healing abilities.
Boss Fight: The Ancient Guardian: This boss has several abilities that can slow and immobilize you. Equip gear with increased resistance and mobility to make this fight easier.
6. Mastery Classes (Unlocked at Level 20)
At level 20, you’ll choose a Mastery Class. These offer deep customization and new abilities. Each base class has three Mastery Classes:
- Acolyte: Lich, Necromancer, Warlock (in development)
- Mage: Sorcerer, Spellblade, Runemaster (in development)
- Primalist: Beastmaster, Shaman, Druid
- Rogue: Bladedancer, Marksman, Falconer (in development)
- Sentinel: Forge Guard, Paladin, Void Knight
Choose a Mastery Class that complements your preferred playstyle. For example:
- Paladin (Sentinel) is excellent for tanking and healing.
- Bladedancer (Rogue) excels in melee combat with high crits and speed.
- Necromancer (Acolyte) allows you to summon powerful minions for a pet-based build.
7. Endgame Content
Once you finish the main story, Last Epoch offers plenty of endgame activities:
The Monolith of Fate
The Monolith is a series of challenging timelines you can run for great loot and experience. Each Monolith has modifiers, increasing its difficulty but also its rewards.
Echoes: Short missions within the Monolith with different objectives. Completing Echoes will grant rewards like experience and rare gear.
Bosses: Each timeline culminates in a boss fight. These bosses are tough, so be sure to stack resistance and defense stats.
Blessings: Defeating a timeline boss allows you to choose a Blessing, which gives permanent buffs such as increased damage or resistance.
The Arena
- A wave-based survival mode where you fight increasingly difficult enemies. The further you go, the better the rewards.
8. General Tips for Success
Balance Offense and Defense: Don’t just focus on dealing high damage—prioritize survivability as well. Items with resistances, health regen, or leech are crucial.
Experiment with Builds: One of the fun aspects of Last Epoch is the variety of builds. Respecializing your skills and passives is easy, so feel free to experiment until you find your optimal playstyle.
Use the Crafting System: Upgrade your gear with crafting to make difficult content easier. Make use of Glyphs and Runes to reduce instability and improve your crafting outcomes.
Stat Scaling: Prioritize stats that synergize with your build. For example:
- A Mage might focus on intelligence for spell damage.
- A Sentinel might stack vitality and strength for health and melee damage.
