World of Light (Adventure Mode)
Objective: Defeat spirits and save the world from Galeem and Dharkon.
Walkthrough Tips:
- Unlock Fighters: You start with Kirby and can unlock other fighters as you progress. Focus on unlocking characters that suit your playstyle first.
- Use Spirits Strategically: Equip spirits to boost your stats and gain special abilities. Match the type (Attack, Grab, Shield) of your spirits against the opponent’s for an advantage.
- Exploration: Explore different regions on the map to uncover new paths and hidden fighters. Each area has themed battles.
- Boss Battles: Bosses like Giga Bowser and Dracula require patience and strategy. Dodge their attacks, wait for openings, and punish them with your strongest moves.
Key Battles:
- Galeem (Final Boss - Good Path): Avoid Galeem’s large, sweeping attacks and target weak spots when they appear.
- Dharkon (Final Boss - Dark Path): Dharkon uses chaotic, fast attacks. Focus on dodging and attacking when it’s vulnerable.
True Ending:
- After defeating Galeem and Dharkon, you’ll need to fight them both together. Focus on balancing your attacks between them to get the true ending.
Classic Mode
Objective: Complete a series of themed battles with each character.
Walkthrough Tips:
- Each Character’s Route: Every fighter has a unique Classic Mode route, tailored to their character or origin.
- Final Battle: Depending on the character, the final battle may involve a specific boss (e.g., Master Hand or Ganon). Use defensive maneuvers against powerful bosses and capitalize on openings.
- Difficulty: Classic Mode increases in difficulty as you progress. Choose a difficulty setting that matches your skill level. Higher difficulties yield more rewards.
Spirits Board
Objective: Collect spirits by defeating CPU opponents in specialized battles.
Walkthrough Tips:
- Spirit Types: Be mindful of the spirit's types (Attack, Grab, Shield) and equip spirits accordingly. Attack beats Grab, Grab beats Shield, and Shield beats Attack.
- Fights with Conditions: Some battles have special conditions (like strong winds or hazards). Choose spirits that neutralize these effects to make the fight easier.
Multiplayer (Online and Local)
Online Play Tips:
- Quickplay and Elite Smash: To win more online matches, use a character you're comfortable with and practice combos and spacing.
- Adaptability: Every opponent will have a different style of play, so be ready to adapt. Some players may focus on defense, while others will aggressively rush you.
- Lag Management: Sometimes, lag can affect online matches. If you're experiencing connectivity issues, try using a wired internet connection for a smoother experience.
Unlocking All Characters
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate starts with a small roster of fighters, but you can unlock every character as you play. Here are the primary methods:
1. World of Light:
- By playing through the World of Light adventure mode, you’ll unlock characters as you encounter them on the map.
2. Classic Mode:
- Complete Classic Mode with different characters to unlock new fighters. Each run through Classic Mode will unlock a new character.
3. Smash Battles:
- Play regular Smash matches. After a certain number of matches, a “Challenger Approaching” battle will occur, where you can unlock new characters by defeating them.
Pro Tip: After unlocking a fighter, you can speed up unlocking by starting a new Smash match and then immediately quitting. This will trigger the next Challenger Approaching battle more quickly.
Character-Specific Tips
Here are general tips for popular characters:
Mario:
- Neutral Special (Fireball) is great for zoning and forcing your opponent to approach.
- Up Special (Super Jump Punch) is a strong recovery move, but can also be used to finish off combos.
Link:
- Arrows and Bombs are excellent for keeping distance. Use his projectile game to force opponents into bad positions.
- Link's Forward Air and Down Air are strong kill moves. Use them when your opponent is at a higher percentage.
Kirby:
- Inhale your opponent’s abilities to use their moves against them.
- Kirby’s Down Special (Stone) is a strong attack, but predictable. Use it sparingly.
Pikachu:
- Thunder Jolt (Neutral Special) can disrupt opponents and force them to approach.
- Pikachu has a great aerial game. Use fast moves like Back Air and Up Air to juggle opponents.
Samus:
- Charge Shot is one of Samus’s best tools. Charge it fully, and use it to pressure opponents into defensive options.
- Use Missiles and Bombs to control space and limit your opponent’s movement.
Stage Strategies
Battlefield and Final Destination:
- These are neutral stages without any hazards or platforms (in the case of Final Destination). They are great for competitive play and focusing on pure combat skill.
Hazardous Stages:
- Some stages, like Great Plateau Tower or New Donk City, have hazards that can impact gameplay. Be mindful of environmental dangers and use them to your advantage to knock out opponents.
Advanced Techniques
Edge Guarding:
- When your opponent is off-stage, pressure them to prevent their recovery. Use moves like Back Air, projectiles, or even spikes (downward-hitting attacks) to prevent them from getting back.
Shielding and Parrying:
- Hold the shield button to block attacks, but avoid overusing it as shields can break. Parrying (releasing shield at the exact moment an attack hits) can open up opportunities for counterattacks.
Comboing:
- Many characters have moves that chain into each other. Practice strings of attacks in Training Mode to figure out effective combos. For example, Mario can use his Up Tilt to chain into aerial attacks.
